The King Lear Project was inspired by Jan Sargent and a group of actors who originally created an acclaimed production at the Bristol Old Vic. They set the play in a contemporary but fictional country undergoing dramatic regime change. Now passion for a film project has been generated by the recognition that Shakespeare in his play King Lear was exploring our contemporary landscape as he graphically records the way misplaced power and the self-interested governance of despotic rulers can be overturned by their own families, supported by citizens.
The strength of commitment from an internationally renowned cast and senior crew to the idea of producing a feature film has been such that independent financial backers have committed and broadcasters are now in detailed discussion. In addition, the project has developed innovative educational products and services for those interested in teaching and learning. This project is managed by a community of talent that is willing to commit to the vision, take the risk in the short term, and then recoup rewards as the outputs are distributed around the world, in broadcast and educational environments. Welcome to a genuine community of passionate storytellers.
